Peter Murnieks

What is your background?
My career began in the post-production film industry pioneering the conversion process of films into 3D with the glasses. During that time, I was also a Multimedia Designer doing work in motion design for titles and films, web design, and print materials. Graphic Design always played a huge part in my career no matter what I did. I have also been a traffic coordinator and layout artist, storyboard artist, and traditional artist. I currently live in Scripps Ranch, and use all my skills as a Marketing Director & Generalist in Poway, California.

Why did you decide to become an AIGA Member?
I joined AIGA for the community, to further my education, and share my knowledge with others.

What are you most proud of professionally?
In order to be successful as a designer, or any job, is you have to be willing to constantly learn. One must also learn humility in your designs, career, and life because you will do a lot of what you don’t like first before you get to what you do like. There is a sense of pride that comes with humility and when people recognize this, you start getting noticed. You excel. And its not because of the work you produce, it is because of your work ethic. You must evolve and adapt to the ever changing world while expanding your horizons to stay relevant in your industry. This is what I pride myself on the most and because of that, I have created over 1,000 designs in my career and still love every aspect of my work! I don’t think many people can say that.

What are your other interests outside of work?
In addition to my fulltime job and being a husband and father, I have a youtube channel where I create series and trilogy trailers at themovieninja.com and post to instagram @the.movie.ninja as often as I can. I submit my photographs to stock sites, surf, and swim. I have been in martial arts since I was 16 and at one point, I trained at the Shoilin Temple with the monks. I did have my traditional artwork in a gallery and now you can see it on my instagram page @petermurnieks and go to Murnieksservices.com for my art that is currently available.

I am writing a book about my career as a designer that includes how people can start a career, create a portfolio, build a resume, and also includes insights in the workforce along with agism and much more!
