Coastal Cleanup Day!

This cleanup is free! All volunteers must be registered.

Let's get nautical!
AIGA San Diego members, their family and friends are joining forces to clean our coast on Saturday, September 15, at the 34th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day, one of the largest events of the year with over 100 cleanup sites throughout San Diego county. As a volunteer, you'll get a chance to hang out, get to know your fellow designers and pals, and have fun while doing good for our community.

Get in the water!
Depending on how adventurous you are, you could find yourself walking the docks in search of discarded salvage, or even kayaking, paddle boarding or on a dinghy boat cruising the marina to find trash that may be adrift in the waters. The local dive team, Dirty Bottoms, will also be working alongside us and down in the water in search of buried trash "treasures." Note: All water sport equipment will be available at no charge to volunteers on a first-come, first-serve basis, courtesy of OEX Point Loma.

Join us for this fun "work party!" We are asking that you register with a commitment to do whatever you feel comfortable with in this group cleanup endeavor. It promises to be a safe, family-friendly outing where everyone is invited to help in some way.

Where?
The designated cleanup site that our group will be working on is the Sun Harbor Marina on America's Cup Harbor in Point Loma. This marina is spectacular  and a sight to see. Help us get this marina and the surrounding waters trash-free!

When?
We will be meeting at 8:30 a.m. in front of the water fountain, between Pizza Nova and the Sun Harbor Building. The cleanup will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

What to bring?
- Sun protection (SPF, hats, sunglasses)
- Water
- Close-toe shoes
- Comfortable work clothes
- Optional BYOB (bring your own bucket for trash pick-up)!
- Optional: Bring a swimsuit if you'd like to use the water sport equipment
(Note: You will be provided snacks and cleaning supplies)

Make an impact with each waste item removed!
The California shoreline is one of the most beautiful in the country, yet each year thousands of tons of garbage end up on the beaches and in the ocean. 80% of this debris comes from a land-based source. This garbage can endanger wildlife and human health. By joining us on Coastal Cleanup Day, YOU are helping make a difference in the health of our water resources!

About the Coastal Cleanup Day
Coastal Cleanup day is a statewide beach, coastal and inland waterway cleanup held throughout California each year, part of the largest such cleanup in the country. It's possible through a partnership between the California Coastal Commission, non-profit groups such as I Love a Clean San Diego, and cities and counties throughout the state. It is a major part of the International Coastal Cleanup, which is facilitated by The Ocean Conservancy and includes many U.S. states and territories and over 70 countries. When you volunteer for Coastal Cleanup Day on the third Saturday of September, you are joining hundreds of thousands of volunteers all over the world to remove trash & debris from our ecosystems.

Thank you to...
I Love a Clean San Diego, Sun Harbor Marina, OEX Pt. Loma, and to you–our volunteers!
