Design students and design professionals came out to the beautiful University of San Diego campus for the annual AIGA San Diego Student Portfolio Review.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for design students to showcase their work and get feedback from local working professionals.
“I think the review is a great first step into the professional world. It gives all participants a chance to gain valuable feedback from San Diego design leaders,” said Erick Bautista, an SDSU graduate.
Chris Do, principal of Blind, a Los Angeles design studio, was the featured speaker. He is a former student of San Diego City College and has worked with clients including Xbox, Audi, Showtime, Sony, DirecTV, Oppenheimer Funds, McDonald’s and Scion.
“I found the speaker, Chris Do, to be a very charming and intelligent man. I think the one thing he said that resonated most to me was his analogy on fear,” said Gabriella Jaya, SDSU. “Chris said fear is whatever you put your mind to.”
The Portfolio Review was a success and students walked away not only with more insight but prizes and even internship and employment possibilities.
“It is so San Diego to have folks tripping over themselves to volunteer to attend and or sponsor categories,” said MaeLin Levine, AIGA San Diego Education Chair, AIGA Fellow and Visual Asylum partner. “We’ve always been about community, and the annual Student Portfolio Review is the quintessential AIGA San Diego spirit at work.”
