2020 is already shaping up to be an exciting and prosperous year for our San Diego chapter! It’s likely of no coincidence that this lunar year is represented by the rat—an animal believed to symbolize wealth and new beginnings.
The Lunar New Year is driven by the lunisolar calendar, spanning one solar year in which the calendar dates are prone to shift from each complete cycle to the next. The Zodiac is comprised of twelve animals who—according to ancient folklore—were summoned and instructed to race each other by the Jade Emperor. As the legend has it, the calendar years would then be named after each animal in the order that they arrived. Fatefully, the rat arrived first.
This Lunar New Year, we want to remind everyone—including ourselves—to take advantage of the rat’s strengths: attributes like intelligence, optimism, and courage. Luckily for us, our San Diego creative community has an abundance of all three! Happy Lunar New Year from AIGA San Diego!
