Community-Centered Design/Urban Design/Graffiti Arts Park
Host: Bennett Peji
Location: Jacobs Center/WriterzBlok 404 Euclid Ave SD 92114

Please wear closed-toed shoes as we will be walking on gravel/dirt during the tour.

TEDxSan Diego 2017 speaker, Bennett Peji, will lead a discussion about Community-Centered Design and the urban design of the 60-acre Jacobs Center property which includes Writerz Blok, one of the nation’s first public graffiti art parks. Channeling youth expression into vibrant graffiti art as well as providing real-world skills and hands-on experience has made Writerz Blok a nationally recognized urban art program of the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. All are welcome to experience this remarkable urban space.

Bennett Peji is Senior Director at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation. He directs the local economy initiative which features a new entrepreneurship program as well as the branding, marketing, community affairs and communications work. He is also an international brand consultant, designer and frequent speaker on community-centered design. Peji serves on the boards of California Humanities, the University of San Diego Center for Peace and Commerce, and the La Jolla Playhouse, where he chairs the Public Leadership Council. He served as an AIGA national board member, president of the AIGA San Diego chapter, co-founder of the AIGA Center for Cross-cultural Design, Commissioner of Arts & Culture for the City of San Diego 2003-2012, President of the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Asian Business Association. Peji has received lifetime achievement awards from AIGA San Diego and SDX (formerly the San Diego Ad Club), and numerous business and community awards.
