AIGA members came attired in comfortable walking shoes and sporting cameras, excited to see the public art in the new Terminal 2 expansion and to learn about the Art Program and the Airports sustainability efforts. Some of the highlights on the tour included a sneak peek at the “Reflection Room” by artist Norie Sato – which has not yet opened to the public; a walk under “The Journey” by artist Jim Campbell and “Taxonomy of a Cloud” in Sunset Cove by artist Stuart Keeler. Members were also treated to some behind-the-scenes information from the two entertaining tour guides, Constance White and Richard Gilb. Everyone enjoyed the visual tour, free Airport swag, breakfast items, and the friendly Airport escorts. While their feet were tired, they left inspired and with a ton of great photos and memories.
The tour was SANtabulous for attendees design David Lecours of Lecours Design and his wife Holly. “The artwork and sustainability of the new terminal are world class. It makes me proud to be a native San Diegan,” said David. “I look forward to boasting about what I learned on the tour. Beware, friends and family flying in and out of SAN.”
