Designer Launch

Getting your career started is hard.
This 4-part series will make it easier.

Starting your career in any field today is hard enough, especially for creative professionals—and we've decided to do something about it.

If you're currently enrolled in school or just beginning your career, we'd like to invite you to join our Designer Launch Series. Together, we'll help you connect what you know with what you need and make sure you're set up for success in the process.

Take a look at Stage 1

Event Schedule

Stage 1: Design thinking

September 26, 2019
3:45pm - 6:00pm

First things first—a deep dive into Design Thinking! You'll explore how it relates to the design process and witness first hand how a designer can use it to produce stronger design results. You'll focus on connecting the dots between theory and practice, then extending design thinking into other applications outside of design. A brief presentation (15 – 20 minutes) is included, along with a hands-on exercise to bring design thinking to life.

Stage 2: Customer empathy

November 14, 2019
3:45pm - 6:00pm

Customer empathy via a hands-on workshop to learn how to use your creativity combined with design thinking methodology to get to the root of a customer’s pain point, and ultimately create a more successful design result. This dynamic, small group activity will be led by Intuit’s Justin Marr and is centered around a customer need with on-the-spot, personalized coaching on your work.

Stage 3: Bridging the gap

February 20, 2020
3:45pm - 6:00pm

We'll be talking about Bridging the Gap—filling that considerable void between school and the design business. You'll meet a panel of designers who now "do the hiring" but once walked in the same shoes you're wearing. They'll share their thoughts on best path forward, what they might have done a little differently and the benefits of failing fast, wrapping up with plenty of time for Q&A.

Stage 4: Understanding the disciplines

May 7, 2020
4:00pm - 6:00pm (Virtual Event)

Lastly, we’ll have designers from each design craft, including UX design, visual design, design research, design technology, and more to help you focus on the craft that best suits your interests and skills. And for those of you who attended all four Designer Launch Series stages, we'll celebrate your efforts and endurance with a brief graduation ceremony and a diploma sent straight to your home.
